Crestamould® 15PA is a spayable urethane modified vinyl ester gelcoat. It has excellent gloss properties with excellent strength. High heat resistance, very good chemical resistance, leaving no ‘water marks’ or stains. Using Crestamould® 15PA for mould or laminate also reduces fabric bulging. Crestamould® 15PA is recommended for high quality moulds. It is also excellent for epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester laminates.
Use
Crestamould® 15PA should have an application thickness of approximately 0.5-0.6mm, which is approximately 500-750g of gelcoat per square metre. Crestamould® 15PA can be used as a topcoat by adding 2% Crystic® Solution MW paraffin.
Application time using 2% Butanox M50 (or alternative) hardener is 29min (15ºC), 22min (20ºC), 14min (25ºC).
To produce an optimal or technologically correct mould, you need:
- Crestamould® 15PA
Apply Crestamould® 15PA to the waxed surface. - Crestamould® 679PA + 1 coat 150 g/m2 fibreglass hair
After 2-8 hours – apply 1 coat of Crestamould® 679PA vinyl ester resin and 1 coat 150 g/m2 fibreglass hair.
When laminating it is preferable to press it against the gelcoat and squeeze bubbles out of it with a bubble squeezing roller. - Crestamould® 4010PA + 4 coats 450 g/m2 fibreglass mat
After 8-16 hours – apply one coat 450 g/m2 fibreglass mat at a time, laminating with Crestamould® 4010PA to form a 4-layer laminate.
Please note that the resin application time is ~30 minutes and all 4 coats must be applied within this time.
Approximate quantity of materials needed to make the mould:
| Material | 1 m2 | 5 m2 |
| Crestamould® 15PA gelcoat moulds | 1 kg | 5 kg |
| Glass fibre mat 150 g/m2 | 1 m2 | 5 m2 |
| Crestamould® 679PA vinylester resin | 0.5 kg | 2.5 kg |
| Glass fibre mat 450 g/m2 | 4 m2 | 20 m2 |
| Crestamould® 4010PA moulding resin | 5 kg | 25 kg |
Storage
Store Crestamould® 15PA in a closed container and do not expose to direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is below 20ºC if possible, but should not exceed 30ºC. Ideally, the container should only be opened immediately before use.
